Women's rights advocates blast the mayor and police commissioner, saying they've mishandled sexual assault cases.

The National Organization for Women held a rally outside One Police Plaza Thursday, calling for more personnel in the Special Victims Division.

A new report by the Department of Investigation found that there are not enough detectives investigating the high amount of sexual assault claims here in the city.

"Why isn't our Mayor as outraged as you and me?" said Sonia Ossorio with the National Organization for Women. "City Hall's response was to call the special victim's division of the NYPD the best in the nation. Nothing could be further from the truth."

The DOI report also says the Special Victims Division has failed to convict and arrest people who commit sex crimes.

The NYPD has called the report inaccurate and misleading.
