Immigration and Customs Enforcement announces the arrests of twenty-four transnational gang members.

This brings the total number of arrests under "Operation Matador" to 475 since last May.

That includes 36 in Queens, 18 in the Bronx and 12 in Brooklyn.

The large majority of arrests have been on Long Island.

The initiative is designed to combat criminal gang activity in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

It operates under the Department of Homeland Security.

The Deputy Director of ICE says since the operation began last year, there has been a decrease in the amount of violent crime directly related to gangs.
