There was emotional testimony Thursday about the murder of 6-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto inside a public housing elevator in East New York, Brooklyn.

Shameka Hampton told jurors she saw defendant Daniel St. Hubert running from the scene and a police officer carrying the stabbing victim, known as PJ.

"I think he was dead at that time, his body was lifeless. I had my daughter at the time. We just stood there and cried," she said.

Hampton also testified she called 911 as she held a second stabbing victim, PJ's best friend, 7-year-old Mikayla Capers, who survived the attack.

Relatives of both PJ and Mikayla sobbed in the courtroom as the recording was played.

"That was very heart-wrenching," said Aricka McClinton, PJ's mother. "Every day has been a heart-wrenching day for all of us, but especially for me because I never knew what happened to my son in regards to how it happened, who did what, where and when."

Thursday's session began with Mikayla, who is now 11, testifying for a second day. And once again, defense attorney Howard Greenberg aggressively cross-examined her, accusing her of lying when she testified that she was shown a photograph of the suspect while she was treated in the hospital.

The defense and prosecution acknowledge that Mikayla did not make an identification in the hospital.

"So the government lost this case today. Everybody by now knows that the child is delusional," Greenberg said. "She said the police showed her a picture of the defendant at the hospital, and she identified him and said, 'That’s the man that did this.' We now know that never happened.”

Mikayla's great-grandmother, Regeina Trevathan, says she's planning on filing an official complaint against the defense attorney for slandering and verbal abusing the 11-year-old, who is lucky to be alive after being like stabbed 16 times.

"She’s not a liar. She knows who did that to her, whether it was 18 times, 16 times, or PJ 20 times. Imagine getting stabbed," Trevathan said. "We didn’t want to come out here and try this case in the media, but Mr. Greenberg has forced my hand when he gets there and calls my great-granddaughter all types of liars and this and that."

PJ's mom says she commends Mikayla for finding the strength to testify about the horrible stabbing that the two families will live with for the rest of their lives.

The case is expected to wrap up next week. It is unclear if St. Hubert will testify in his own defense.
