It's been six months since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

Local activists from the city will rally in Washington to demand more federal aid to the island.

They boarded buses Tuesday morning in Jackson Heights and Bushwick.

They will go to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's offices and then speak with lawmakers.

Maria caused about $100 billion in damage.

Much of the island is still without power and clean water.

This, while a program housing people from Puerto Rico here in the city, is set to expire at the end of next month.
