The embattled Weinstein Company files for bankruptcy protection amidst the sexual abuse scandal surrounding its co-founder.

The company will also release any of Harvey Weinstein's alleged victims from non-disclosure agreements that prevent them from speaking out.

Under bankruptcy protection, civil lawsuits filed by Weinstein's accusers will be halted and no new legal claims can be brought against the company.

But a lawsuit by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will not be stopped because it was filed by a law enforcement agency.
