A livery driver in the Bronx was shot multiple times Saturday by a person who robbed him of $23, according to the city police department and a taxi union.

Police said the app-based livery driver, seen above, was shot multiple times in the abdomen and legs shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday on Morrison Ave. near East 174th St. before the assailant fled.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Officer Arlene Muniz, a police spokeswoman, said the livery driver had picked up the assailant on the street elsewhere in the Bronx.

New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers spokesman Fernando Mateo said the driver, 26-year-old Jeffrey Cisnero Camacho, has a wife and three daughters, and is originally from the Dominican Republic and has lived in the U.S. for about five years.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Mateo said drivers are to be dispatched through radio or a ride-hailing app, but Camacho took the risk of picking up an illegal street-hail at Fish Ave. and Boston Road. Mateo blamed low wages.

"It's not worth your life, but they're not thinking about their life; they're thinking about their responsibilities and their obligations to their families," Mateo said at press conference.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers has offered a $1,000 reward for information on the shooting.

Mateo said there was no camera in Camacho's Prius. Fellow drivers hope surveillance cameras in the neighborhood will help investigators.

The suspect was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, wearing a black sweater.
