DUNKIRK, N.Y — An event for centered around the city of Dunkirk's waterfront could generate millions of dollars in revenue, according to Mayor Willie Rosas.

After months of pitching, Dunkirk won the bid for a speedboat racing show and signed a contract with Race World Offshore Thursday.

The races happening between August 17 and 19 will be televised on the NBC Sports Channel.

"It gives us a chance to get exposure nationally and internationally," said Rosas. "We can showcase our waterfront here in the city and the new improvement we are doing in our parks.”

The races will generate between $15-20 million in revenue for Dunkirk and surrounding businesses, according to Dunkirk's Special Events Chair, Hector Rosas.

"I think it's going to be quite the economic impact for the area," added Rosas.
