An overgrown and littered property in Queens could soon be getting a makeover.

The City Planning Commission greenlighted the Parks Department’s application to acquire Brinckerhoff Cemetery in Fresh Meadows this week. The City landmark has about 76 graves and dates back to 1730. Now Borough President Melinda Katz and the local community board have to review the proposal before the commision and the City Council officially vote to buy the land. We asked Councilman Rory Lancman what he hopes to see at the 182nd Street burial ground.

"There will be some marker informs people of the history and that the people who live in this neighborhood will not wake up everyday to this terrible eyesore," said Lancman.

A Parks Department spokesperson tells NY1 they would like to to add new sidewalk, fencing and historial signage to the property.

They would also check the trees to see what needs to be removed.
