A Jamestown man accused of setting a woman on fire is now charged with attempted murder.

A grand jury originally indicted Luis Castro-Mojica for assault in January.

At the time, police said he doused the woman in a flammable substance before setting her on fire in a Thayer Street home. She was taken to ECMC in critical condition and treated for severe burns.

Mojica-Castro was also wanted on three other domestic incident warrants.

The Chautauqua County Public Defender’s office says the new charge was based on information obtained during an investigation into the incident.

The victim is still recovering from her injuries.

Castro-Mojica is currently being held at the county jail and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
