New York State Sheriffs’ Association is calling on state lawmakers to approve funding to have at least one armed resource officer in every New York school.

Wayne County Sheriff and Association President Barry Virts says the proposal won't be cheap, but it's something that has to be done.

“We spend many millions of dollars to protect a relatively small number of judges across the state, as we should. Surely we can also find the money to protect our most defenseless people, the children we send off to school each day.”

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has called the idea 'unrealistic.'
