ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rats, roaches, mold and lack of heat. Those are some of the complaints being voiced by residents of an apartment building on Thurston Road.

The tenant union says 38 violations have been documented at the building. Now, tenants say they're beginning a rent strike and calling out landlord Peter Hungerford for failing to address the issues.

"It's just sick. We should not have to open up our stoves to heat our homes to keep our families warm," said Shareis Bousignac, a tenant.

According to another tenant, Mary Brown, the living conditions are unacceptable.

"We got rats in the house, we got mice in the house. That's not right."

This isn't the first time there have been complaints about property owned by Hungerford.

Last month we told the story of residents at two Dewey Avenue buildings he owns who faced similar issues.

The landlord responded to the claims by saying his management team is dealing with the issues and performing necessary inspections. He says tenants can call his company, Rochester Asset Management any time with concerns.
