BUFFALO, N.Y. — Plans to turn the old Women & Children's Hospital into a mixed-used building are moving full steam ahead.

The development company is beginning the process of getting construction approvals with the city planning board.

If everything goes according to plan, the idea is turn part of the property into a six-story building that includes a restaurant, retail space, offices and apartments.

This project would be the first phase of construction and they're hoping to break ground this summer.

The entire project spans about eight acres and will also include a daycare, condos, townhouses and affordable housing.

Sinatra & Company Real Estate and Ellicott Development first revealed the project, called "Elmwood Crossing,” to the public about two weeks ago.

But it was met with some pushback.

"We anticipated that there would be questions about various aspects of the project. It's a project that won't be a perfect fit for everyone, but we are committed to coming up with a project that ultimately is a neighborhood asset and we will try to find compromise in as many areas as possible,” said Sinatra & Company Real Estate Director of Development Amy Nagy.

Nagy adds they will continue to hold public meetings to get input from the community.
