NEWPORT, N.C. -- A new goggle kit is helping students at Croatan High School understand the dangers of driving while impaired.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office is now using the Drunk Busters goggle kit as an educational tool on the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol.

Goggles simulate alcohol impairment at different levels, the effects of marijuana, and even sleep deprivation.

Students say it was an eye-opening experience that will make them think twice before getting behind the wheel of a car when under the influence.

"It was actually kind of scary to think that that's actually what people see when they're under the influence,” said Riley Springfield, a senior at Croatan High School.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office along with 33 other donors raised a total of $600 to fund the Drunk Buster' drug and alcohol impairment goggles.
