WAXHAW, N.C. -- Three people have been arrested after an elderly man was found badly beaten inside his Waxhaw home.

Union County officials say they were called out to a home on Bingham Road just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday after family members found 73-year-old Willie Adams badly beaten.

The sheriff's office says 34-year-old Elisha Hicks, her boyfriend, 30-year-old Eddie Lowery, and his mother, 49-year-old Patricia Benton, who lived down the road from Adams, robbed him Saturday night.

Officials say they attacked him with a blunt object, possibly a baseball bat and robbed him.

They also broke the window of his car and stole cash from inside before leaving.

Adams was left with critical injuries inside the home.

Spectrum News spoke to his nephew, who said he knew something had happened when he saw his uncle's car.

"Something didn't look right. And then once we seen him in that state, I called his name and he wasn't answering and he had shallow breathing,” he told us.

Hicks, Lowery and Benton are all charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny.
