A performing arts space in Queens needs some help from the community for its next act.

The Chocolate Factory Theater in Long Island City, has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to raise $25,000 for a new permanent home.

Last year, the city helped the theater purchase an old machine factory in the Dutch Kills section of LIC.

The theater needs the money to renovate the building and convert into a space for independent artists.

The Chocolate Factory Theater has been operating since 2005, but because of rising rents in

the neighborhood the founders decided to get their own space before their current lease expires.

"We should be giving to the arts in our own backyard because without them, we're not really a vibrant community, " said Co-Founder and Executive Director Sheila Lewandowksi.

Because this is a Kickstarter campaign, the theater will only get the money if it reaches that $25,000 goal.

The deadline is February 28th. For more information head to www.ChocolateFactoryTheater.org
