SOUTHPORT, N.C. -- The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is working with state leaders to enact a no wake zone in Soutport.

The Army Corps. Of Engineers is serving as a neutral party to collect public input on the possible no wake zone. The goal is to cut down on erosion and improve safety on the water.

A "no wake zone" is an area where boats have to reduce speed in order to avoid damaging something (property, nature, persons, etc.)

"There’s been a lot of floating docks that have been damaged, broken loose from their pilings. You’ve had people knocked down on the dock at the Southport Marina trying to fuel boats,” said Chief Deputy Charles Miller.
