NEW YORK - The city is being sued for $600 million by the families of the victims of the Lower Manhattan bike path terror attack.

The suit claims the city knew the area was vulnerable and potentially unsafe.

Prosecutors say Sayfullo Saipov was inspired by the Islamic State group when he drove a rented truck onto the path on Halloween, killing eight people.

Before the attack, two cyclists were killed on the bike path by drunk drivers.

In 2010, the Department of Homeland Security warned of the potential risk of terrorist groups using vehicles in attacks.

Concrete barriers were installed in the area afterwards.
