Activists and celebrities hosted an alternative to President Trump's State of the Union address Monday night in Manhattan, saying people are invigorated to fight his policies and actions.

"It is not about what's happening in Washington D.C.; it's what's happening in every neighborhood of every city. It's what's happening in every town," Mayor Bill de Blasio said at the event. "It's what we do. It's what the people do. We are the ones who will take back our nation."

"The People's State of the Union" was held Monday night at The Town Hall in Midtown, a historic theater built to support women's suffrage.

The address featured anti-Trump celebrities and activists from liberal and progressive groups, addressing issues like women's rights and immigration.

Some of the speakers overall included Wanda Sykes, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Common, John Leguizamo, Michael Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Lee Daniels, and Rosie Perez.

"The state of the union is people are fired up," de Blasio said. "People are awake and alive and organized and activated all over this country."
