The DEC announced the results of a comprehensive sampling at Niagara Sanitation Landfill.

The results found no off-site exposure to contaminants at the landfill in the town of Wheatfield.

The testing included collecting more than five dozen groundwater samples, collecting surface water, sediment samples and more.

The DEC released a statement saying, in part:

"Governor Cuomo has made getting to the bottom of this situation a priority to protect the public and provide residents with the peace of mind that comes with having the most accurate information available.”

The testing comes amid a lawsuit by residents living adjacent to the former landfill against the town of Wheatfield and seven companies responsible for dumping Love Canal waste into the 19-acre site.

They claim that tests of dust and sump levels in their home show their properties have been polluted with chemicals from the landfill.

The DEC is preparing a report on its investigation to share with the public sometime in the spring.
