A petition has been created for Syracuse-born Astronaut Jeanette Epps on the website MoveOn.org.

Epps, who is a Corcoran High School and LeMoyne College graduate, was taken off the Expedition 56/57 crew last week.

The crew is set for an upcoming mission to the International Space Station in June.

Epps' brother posted on Facebook, saying his sister had been fighting racism and misogyny in NASA.

Epps would have been the first African American astronaut on the space station crew.

NASA said Epps would be considered for future assignments, but gave no reason for why she was removed from the mission.
