ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some local kids took a journey through the world of music at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance.

Kids from six months to ten years old enjoyed various musical activities as the school's annual Musical Mystery Tour.

That included interactive sessions of musical fundamentals, African Dance, ballet and an instrument "petting zoo."

A scavenger hunt sent the kids on a musical adventure through the historic Hochstein building.

"I think the arts are so important, especially in this day and age when things are so technologically driven," said Gary Palmer, Hochstein dean of students. "Music connects people. It's one of the few things you can sort of do individually and have satisfaction, but also interact with others."

The Hochstein school is celebrating 97 years since its founding.

It currently serves about 4,000 students from the Rochester region.
