A recent study shows that the Twin Tiers is struggling in the fight against opioid addiction.

A study from the Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative had Chemung County on the top of the list for opioid-related emergency room visits in the Finger Lakes.

The research used data from 2016. In Chemung County, 20 people died from overdose deaths, and in neighboring Steuben County, 14 people died. The study also showed that a large percentage of overdose victims were recently prescribed opioid painkillers.

Right now there's a regional task force trying to fight these very issues in the Twin Tiers.  In Chemung County there were 196 opioid-related emergency room visits in 2016. Steuben County had 121 visits.
