FALCONER, N.Y. — For the second time in less than a year, the village of Falconer has had its hands full with another devastating building fire.

The fire started Sunday in a building on Main Street, two doors down from another devastating fire last March.

Investigators say this latest blaze started in the attic, but have been unable to determine what started it, though foul play is not expected. The building is a total loss and will be knocked down this week.

Sixteen tenants and three businesses were displaced, including longtime staple Falconer Vacuum Shop. In addition to the vac shop, Roots Salon, which burnt down in March, caught fire again, less than four months after reopening in its new location.

As it did after the fire in March, Brothers By Choice out of The Hogg Shoppe in the village is collecting financial and clothing donations for the victims.

"It's just devastating to the family, and if the community would bring forth donations, it just helps them out more. And the family appreciates that there is good people out there," said Michael Freeman, Brothers By Choice.

"Very devastating.  I lost everything, all my inventory, all my 46 years’ worth of being in the building. I bought the place in 1987, so 30 years ago I bought the building and have worked on all the apartments and made it a nice building since then," said Brian Nelson, Falconer Vacuum Shop owner.
