New York State is ramping up efforts to help Salvadoran immigants at risk of deportation.

The Trump administration announced earlier this week that it would revoke temporary protected status for immigrants from El Salvador.

The program provides refuge for people affected by natural disaster or war.

Advocates gathered Monday to protest the decision.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the move will break up families and small businesses in New York.

He is calling on his state department to offer more resources to those affected.

Some 200,000 Salvadorans will have to either adjust their immigration status or face deportation by September 2019.

The state's office for "New Americans" is hosting three "Know Your Rights" seminars on February 8, 15 and 22.
