Imagine having no choice but to stay outside even with lake effect snow and freezing temperatures in the forecast.

The organization We Rise Above The Streets is doing what it can to help those living that reality in Syracuse.

Every Saturday morning for "Sandwich Saturdays," volunteers get together to make healthy lunches for the homeless. They hand them out under the bridge at Dickerson Street.

In addition to the sack lunch which includes a sandwich, yogurt, granola bar and juice -- they make hot chocolate and give out winter gear, including jackets, gloves and hand warmers.

They also hand out everyday necessities like hygiene products and pampers.

The organizer noticed the need when he moved to the area three years ago and wanted to help having once been homeless himself.

"I ate out of garbage cans, slept under the bridge, I had mental health illness problems, I was hopeless. I was lost. But someone believed in me", says founder Alamin Muhammed.

We Rise Above The Streets also hands out everyday necessities -- like hygiene products and pampers -- as well as offers job placement and education classes.
