There's a new leadership team for the City of Syracuse's fire department.

Mayor Ben Walsh swore in Fire Chief Michael Monds and First Deputy Fire Chief Steven Evans Thursday morning.

A 17-year department veteran, Monds was previously a lieutenant from Station 10. Evans, who has 20 years of service, will be at his side.

“I think when Steve and I came together, our goal right from the beginning and my philosophy with my life that I've always thought about with my family and friends and coworkers is just getting up and doing the right thing,” Monds said.

Monds grew up on Syracuse's south side. He replaces former Fire Chief Paul Linnertz, who served under the administration of former mayor Stephanie Miner.
