ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Grammy-winning guitarist and producer Nile Rodgers is a founder of the disco band "Chic" and has collaborated with artists like Diana Ross, David Bowie, Keith Urban, and Daft Punk.

This past spring Rodgers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

While touring this August, a bout of E.Coli brought him to Strong Hospital in Rochester.

But there doctors discovered a potentially cancerous growth on his kidney.

“He’s just been having a lot of great things happen to him, and then all of a sudden this happened," said Dr. Hani Rashid of the University of Rochester Medical Center / Strong Hospital. "It just kind of puts everything on edge.”

Rodgers chose to return to Strong last month for surgery.

Dr. Rashid performed a precise robot-assisted surgery pioneered at the hospital.

He removed the growth and found it to be cancerous.

“I had surgery to remove the carcinogenic mass," Rodgers said in a video on his blog. "My prognosis is 100 percent recovery.”

In a tweet Thursday Rodgers called Strong "an amazing hospital" and spoke positively of his experience.

"We try to treat everybody the same," said Dr. Rashid. "But he was such a great guy. He had this aura about him that was just very cool, calm, and collected, and he made it easy for us to take care of him no matter -- whether he was a famous guy or not."
