CHARLOTTE – Now that Christmas is over, thoughts turn to what to do with holiday waste.

When it comes to recycling it, Mecklenburg County officials say there is a right and a wrong way to do it.

The Solid Waste Department says things like wrapping paper, cards and cardboard can go out in your curbside tote.

However, broken Christmas lights, electronics, and appliances must be brought to the county's four full-service centers.

Tree recycling is another issue. In Charlotte, residents can put their live Christmas trees out with their regular trash on pickup day.

Outside of the city, residents need to contact towns individually for guidance.
