NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office now says investigators believe the home in which a man was killed on Christmas Eve was targeted.
The man was shot when he and several other men entered the home on Silver Lake Road in Monkey Junction around 2:30 a.m. and engaged in a gun battle with the homeowner.
The other suspects ran away.
The sheriff’s office says the incident may be gang related, but that the public is not in danger.
