RALEIGH -- A member of the state's transportation board has resigned following accusations of assault on a woman.

Danny McComas submitted a letter of resignation to Governor Roy Cooper on Friday.

Cooper's office called McComas's decision "the appropriate thing to do".

It comes after allegations surfaced last week that he'd dragged a female lobbyist around his office by the hair.

The alleged incident took place in 2003 when McComas was a member of the General Assembly.

McComas had been with the transportation board since march.
