WILMINGTON -- A girl in Wilmington is spending her holiday’s giving back to those in need.

Eight-year-old Vyvienne Lydon raised $1,000 dollars to help stuff 100 stockings.

She noticed there was a need to help out the homeless and for weeks she collected items like toothbrushes, socks and other goodies.

"Tissues, razors, ponchos and wipes so they can wipe their face," said Vyvienne.

It's a kind gesture from a small person and is much appreciated by volunteers at the Hope Center who pass out food to those less fortunate.

"I think it’s great. I think it’s wonderful that they do that because we need more of that. We do have a lot of adults that help out but a lot of children don’t get into that type of thing because they don’t have that mindset to do that," said Hope Center shelter director Wendell Hansley.

Vyvienne, who is originally from Boston, used to do this when she lived up north and wanted to help out when she got to the coast.

"When we moved down here I saw a bunch of homeless people in Wilmington. And I wanted to fill stockings like I did back home and give them out to the homeless," Vyvienne said.

And her mom Vicky Lydon couldn’t be more proud of her little girl.

"She was just kind of born that way, she’s always making cards, she’s always trying to get people to laugh and be happy and it’s just awesome."
