According to an affidavit, an officer arrived at the scene to find Garrett pacing near the front door of the apartment with a knife in hand. The officer brandished his gun and gave Garrett loud verbal commands.

Police said Garrett ignored the officer’s commands, tossed patio furniture and continued the knife attack. The officer then shot Garrett in defense of the victim.

The victim, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police on Monday identified the victim as 43-year-old Andrea Faye Lindsey.

Police interviewed Aubrey Garrett’s brother, Patrick Garrett, who stated that his brother and Lindsey had stayed the night at his apartment. Patrick Garrett said he woke up to the commotion of his brother yelling at Lindsey. He then observed Lindsey bleeding heavily on the ground in front of the apartment.

Patrick Garrett’s account was supported by a neighbor. That neighbor stated Aubrey Garrett attacked Lindsey for approximately 30 minutes.
