AUSTIN, Texas — Most people have a lengthy Christmas list for what to put under the tree, but for thousands of Texas families, having food on the table is all they're asking for.

Food insecurity is a daily struggle that is all too real for many Texans. According to the USDA’s most recent report, over 14 percent of households in the state deal with hunger. Area food banks expect that number to grow in the coming years.

Central Texas Food Bank’s Derrick Chubbs said it takes plenty of community support to tackle a growing issue, like hunger. That can come in the form of food or monetary donations and volunteering.
