SALISBURY- While some are out buying gifts this year, one Salisbury woman is giving handmade gifts to those in need.

Since February, 86-year-old Klara Sayers has been working hard to knit as many hats and scarves as she could.

This week she donated more than 100 of the warm gifts to Rowan Helping Ministries. While she plans to do even more next year, she hopes others will join in as well.

"I would say to them, start,” said Sayers. “You might not be able to make as many as I do because I’m working hard, but just start. If you just make four or five and you make maybe 10 and bring them over to somebody, maybe anybody, it helps."

Sayers says the yarn she uses is mostly donated for her knitting projects.
