SALISBURY, N.C. -- Livingstone College’s December graduation is set for this Friday, and one graduate will be making history for her family as the first person to get a diploma.

Three and a half years ago, Precious Sidbury was homeless. But after Livingstone representatives visited her high school, she decided to find a way to get to college. Now she hopes to use her degree to become a teacher and help mentor other students in the same position.

“They just need that one mentor or that one person to say no matter where I come from or what I have I can still get an education,” says Sidbury.  “And education can open so many doors.”

Precious is set to walk across the stage this Friday.  Faculty, friends and her mother are all planning on being in the audience.
