CHARLOTTE -- A CMPD officer has started a GoFundMe for the mother of a 13-year-old with a serious blood disorder.

According to a release by the department, Officer Rhonda Murray is attempting to raise money for the Salas-Reyes family, which she became acquainted with through the "Kops and Kids Learn Spanish" program more than a year ago.

Sonia Reyes, the mother, lost her job at a dry cleaners because she missed too much work after daughter, 13-year-old Janeth, was diagnosed with a serious blood disorder and came down with pneumonia.

Janeth has been in the hospital for more than two weeks.

Though she is responding well to medication and her prognosis is good, she will need lengthy medical treatment to cure her of the blood disorder.

This is why Officer Murray is trying to help the family get back on its feet.
