CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Several applications from Mecklenburg County’s server are up and running after a ransomware attack.

County Manager Dena Dioro released a report saying 16 applications are now online in several departments: Payroll Processing and Public Health, Criminal Justice Services and the Department of Social Services.

Last week, hackers sent an email infected with ransomware to a county employee. That email ended up exposing 48 county servers to the criminals who then demanded thousands of dollars to unfreeze the files. County officials decided to not pay the cyber criminals.

Although some systems have been repaired, she says several systems remain affected. For more information on specific departments, check here
