SAN ANTONIO — Construction of four roadway safety projects are under way in the Alamo City.

The public safety project is part of the Vision Zero initiative currently underway in Austin as well.

Last year on Christmas Day, on Wurzbach Road near Fernglen, is where 8-year-old Jesus Ortega was killed while crossing the street — The four construction projects under way like this one is part of a nationwide campaign to reduce all traffic fatalities to zero.

The vision of Vision Zero states that the loss of even one life or serious injury on any roadways is unacceptable.

In Austin last year, 28 pedestrians were killed. In San Antonio, 65 people pedestrians were killed.

Also in San Antonio, 135 people did not go home to their families due to traffic-related crashes.

These roadway safety improvements were identified through pedestrian crash studies

The projects are anticipated to be complete by February 2018.
