Some city officials are planning to protest the FDNY's promotion of a firefighter cadet, who stirred controversy for racist and anti-Semitic tweets.

Joseph Cassano is the son of former fire commissioner Salvatore Cassano.

He's supposed to be sworn into the FDNY training academy today.

Cassano used to be an EMT, but resigned in 2013 over the offensive posts.

A rally at City Hall today will protest his hiring.

So far, the fire department is standing by the cadet, saying Cassano passed all requirements to enter the academy.

UPDATE: A previous version of this story indicated that City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito was leading the rally, but the speaker's office tells NY1 she is not involved with the rally and is not attending.
