A burst of color is added to the Long Island Railroad tracks that run through one neighborhood.

The twelve piece "Flower Tree" mural was unveiled underneath the LIRR tracks in Elmhurst, Sunday.

The Queens Council of the Arts awarded a grant to two local artist to create the mural and then reached out to the railroad for permission to hang it on the underpass.

The artists said the different flowers illustrated represent the diversity in the community.

"People are actually recognizing many of the flowers," said Polina Porras. "There are flowers from Latin America, from Asia so they kind of feel connected.  "

The mural is the latest project in the initiative by the LIRR to beautify the tracks.

Several paintings already hang underneath the tracks across the street from the new mural.
