A wide-stretching storm system continues to move into the Carolinas Friday. This has been a very impressive system with heavy snow at times along the Texas Gulf Coast and even northern Mexico.

We will continue to see precipitation settle into the Carolinas, and with time, areas near and north and west of roughly I-85 should transition to all or mostly snow. South of that line, rain will be involved for a majority of the event. North of that line, the snow opportunities continue right through tonight.

This is an exceedingly-challenging accumulation forecast. Ground temperatures are warm, and surface temperatures will likely remain above freezing for a large portion of the event. These factors will limit accumulations.

With that said, I do think many spots north of the rain/snow line will get some snow on the ground, especially grassy and elevated surfaces. On my accumulation map, focus for now on the lower end of the ranges given.
