LUMBERTON, N.C. -- Multiple agencies are investigating after a fiery crash left a driver and a 1-year-old dead on N.C. Highway 72 West in Robeson County on Thursday.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. and involved a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the driver of the tractor-trailer, 63-year-old Otis Enoch Jr., and the child, Windshae McRae, were pronounced dead on arrival. Wendell McRae, 57, and Niasia Oliver, 29, were both airlifted to McLeod Hospital.

The tractor trailer, which was hauling hazardous materials, caught fire and flipped over.

There's no word on what the tractor trailer was hauling, but authorities say it traveled off the road, overcorrected and hit the other car.

It's unclear the reason the tractor trailer veered off the road, but neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors.
