Officials in Brooklyn are reigniting their push to get people back on board a bus line that has been discontinued.

Councilman Stephen Levin and some Brooklyn residents are calling on the Department of Transportation and the MTA to revive the cross-Gowanus B71 bus.

They'd like to see the service restored as a way to link Red Hook with Lower Manhattan.

The group started a petition that has already amassed more than 1,300 signatures.

The previous route ran along the Union Street corridor and was eliminated in 2010 as part of system-wide budget cuts.

Levin said Tuesday that the city's financial situation is different now.

"The economy has come back, we are no longer facing the fiscal crisis that we were back in 2010, and this is something that a lot of Bropoklynites rely on," he said.

In response, the MTA would only say "we are aware of the proposal and it is under review."
