Police arrested a 27-year-old man they said stabbed two people Monday on Staten Island, killing one of them.

Police said they were responding to a 911 call of an assault around 2:14 p.m. near Bement Ave. and Bement Court in West Brighton.

Officers said Geetha Howie, 63, with stab wounds to her face and body. The suspect was found cradling her body when police arrived, the NYPD said.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident, officials said.

Howie was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A 56-year-old man had a cut on his arm and was treated at the scene.

Police said the victims were neighbors. They said they did not know the suspect and it appears to be a random attack.

Charges are pending for the alleged attacker, and the investigation is ongoing.
