AUSTIN, Texas -- The Brownie Neighborhood Park is expanding, but first the city wants the community's input.

Saturday, neighbors met with Austin Parks and Recreation Department officials to talk about enlarging the park.

Residents were given sticky notes to post their thoughts for the North Lamar neighborhood space. While many residents expressed safety concerns, the city says the workshops should help ease their minds.

"As we start developing the park to try to get use out there to get people really into the park. The more activity there is in the park, the safer the park's going to be,” said Charles Mabry.

In 2014 about five acres of more parkland was acquired to expand the existing two acres of the park.  The plan for expansion includes play space, covered and opening seating and eating areas. The city hopes to host more community workshops like this one.
