GEDDES, N.Y. -- The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department now says that a deadly overnight crash on Interstate 690 was related to a police chase that started in Skaneateles.

The chase happened shortly after midnight.

Authorities say a 22-year-old from East Syracuse was at the wheel, and managed to get away after his passenger jumped out and ran.

Police arrested the passenger, but it wasn't until an hour later when a deputy spotted the driver speeding in the Camillus area.

He pursued the vehicle, only to find it disabled on 690 near the Interstate 695 interchange.

They believe the suspect was hit by a tractor-trailer shortly thereafter.

The man's name is not being released, but the 16-year-old passenger is said to be cooperating with the investigation.
