With the holiday season right around the corner, a local organization is reminding us to shop small.

Every year the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce highlights an island based small business to encourage local holiday shopping on Small Business Saturday...the day after black friday.

This year on their twenty fifth anniversary, the Cape House Gallery in Tottenville was in the spotlight.

The gallery as well as thousands of other small businesses islandwide, will offer discounts and other promotions on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.

"It makes people aware, that may have not been aware of the small business, the importance of small businesses in their community, that we can provide them with a very special and personalized service," said Store Owner Elaine Putonti.

According to the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, for every one hundred dollars spent at small businesses, 68 of those dollars remain in the local economy.
