ROME, N.Y. -- A man accused of murder rejected a plea deal in Oneida County Court Tuesday.

Robert Coffin, 35, is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Thomas Shepherd.

The prosecution offered a guilty plea to 2nd degree murder in exchange for a recommended sentence of 23 years to life in prison. The maximum sentence is 25 years to life.

Coffin told the judge he wouldn't take the deal because he isn't guilty.

Police say there is video of the incident, which occurred in August.

After eluding authorities for two weeks, Coffin was captured in Las Vegas.
