On Sunday, people will be lacing up and 'turning the park purple; for the 3rd annual Bella Lisa Pancreatic Cancer Walk on Staten Island at Clove Lakes Park.

Health Statistics show Pancreatic cancer rates on Staten Island were more than 10 percent higher than the rest of New York City between 2007 and 2011.

The foundation financially helps Staten Islanders undergoing treatment for the disease. It was founded in memory of Bella Lisa, by her daughter.

Cancer rates are found to be higher in the borough than any other in the city. The governor recently commissioned a study to figure out why. Some theories point to a

a variety of possible causes for the increased cancer rates on Staten Island, including landfill contamination, high smoking rates and New Jersey pollution.
