Some residents are getting their community gardens back after Hurricane Sandy washed them away five years ago.

Arverne residents planted an inaugural bush at the Ocean Bay Apartments Saturday.

The new community garden will have 45 boxes for people to plant their own fruits and vegetables.

"I am so happy to see that this really comes to light because this was one of my main goals that I want to see happen and now it's really happening," said resident Lolita Miller.

There will be a lottery to choose who gets the spaces.
